Denard Span leaves Giants' game with jammed shoulder
San Francisco Giants outfielder Denard Span left Wednesday's Cactus League game after jamming his right shoulder.
Span fell hard on the shoulder while making a diving attempt at a ball, and Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged after the game there is some concern about the severity of the injury. Look for a status update from the club by Thursday morning. Span was limited to 61 games last season because of a hip injury which eventually required surgery. San Francisco is hoping to use the 32-year-old as its new starting center fielder and primary leadoff man in 2016.
Our projections have Span posting a .334 wOBA with eight long balls and 20 steals. In 275 plate appearances in 2015, Span hit to the tune of a .348 wOBA with five homers and 11 stolen bases (without being caught once). He’ll be a valuable piece for the Giants’ lineup, if he can stay healthy.
