Maurice Watson to miss remainder of Creighton's season with torn ACL

Creighton Bluejays senior guard Maurice Watson has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, according to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.

What It Means:

Purely awful news for the senior point guard after initial reports did not see any ligament damage. Unfortunately, Watson's collegiate career is now over as he needs four-to-six months of recovery. The loss of Watson is also a big blow to the Bluejays top-15 offense as the point guard accounted for 28.2 percent of the possessions used by Creighton and was on the floor for over 75 percent of the available minutes. He averaged 8.8 assists and 12.9 points per game. Isaiah Zierden will likely take over point guard duties, but Marcus Foster, the team's leading scorer, will be expected to handle more of the offense now.

Creighton was 10th in the nation with 17.7 assists per game and second with 53.1 percent shooting, but will likely fall back without Watson. Currently projected as a three-seed for the NCAA Tourney, the Bluejays will need a minor miracle to survive the gauntlet that is their remaining Big East schedule.
