Lions label David Montgomery (thigh) day-to-day
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is day-to-day with a thigh bruise, per head coach Dan Campbell.
Montgomery said it would take “a couple weeks” for the injury to heal, but Campbell is offering a more optimistic diagnosis. The Lions will release their first injury report on Wednesday, so that should provide a little more clarity on Montgomery's chances of playing in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons. Jahmyr Gibbs and Craig Reynolds should handle most of the backfield work, but the Lions may call up Zonovan Knight from the practice squad to steal some snaps away.
Montgomery rushed 16 times for 67 yards and a touchdown in Week 2, and he caught a pass for 7 yards, totaling 11.9 FanDuel points on 30 snaps (45%). After Montgomery exited in the third quarter, Gibbs and Reynolds each had 3 carries, but Gibbs out-targeted Reynolds 5-1. The Lions have expressed their desire to limit Gibbs' workload, so Reynolds could play a significant role on early downs.
