Even in a year in which Brian McCann isn't hitting for average well, he is showing some solid pop. He's sporting a 34.8% hard-hit rate that is just above his career average and owns a .172 ISO. He has always done his best work against right-handed pitching, and his batted ball numbers against righties still look great this year with a 13.9% soft-hit rate, a 36.1% hard-hit rate, and a 46.2% fly ball rate.
That success against righties makes tonight's matchup with Yovani Gallardo an appealing one.
Gallardo has an ugly 5.08 ERA and 5.54 SIERA on the year (following up a 4.59 SIERA from last year), while his 12.2% walk rate is worryingly close to his 15.5% strikeout rate.
Lefties have crushed Gallardo to the tune of a .351 wOBA and 5.86 xFIP this season, and in the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium, McCann has huge upside.
