The Detroit Tigers are a team to target for their home matchup with Chicago White Sox righty Anthony Ranaudo.
Even with a game at Coors on tap, the Tigers boast the night's highest implied total at a whopping 5.76 runs. Detroit certainly has a good offense -- especially with J.D. Martinez back in the fold -- but a lot of the reason behind the lofty implied total is Ranaudo.
Ranaudo has 74 1/3 innings to his name at the MLB level, and it hasn't gone well. He's walked more hitters than he's struck out, which is how you get a 5.90 SIERA. He's given up a 36.5% hard-hit rate and 48.5% fly-ball rate to lefties, although righties are torching him, too.
Victor Martinez profiles as someone who is in a perfect spot to take advantage of all this. A switch hitter, Martinez has put up a .367 wOBA against righties with a 41.4% hard-hit rate and 38.9% fly-ball rate. He's on fire in August with a .396 wOBA this month, and hitting in the middle of the lineup, he should have a chance to do some damage tonight.
