Why He Will Go Overlooked:
CC Sabathia is wrapping up a rollercoaster 2016 season. His 4.47 SIERA is his highest mark since his 2004. In addition, his fly-ball rate (34.5%) is at its highest in the last six seasons, and his walk rate (8.7%) is at a 10-year high.
He hasn't done much to inspire confidence, and even on a short slate, he is unlikely to see huge ownership.
Why You Should Use Him:
Sabathia does have some underlying peripherals that show the big lefty may make for a nice play Thursday.
He is allowing only 1.02 home runs per nine innings, and his hard-hit rate has dropped 5 points to 24.3% this season. He's allowing only a .313 wOBA in 2016, as well. August was the best month of Sabathia's year as he posted season-best marks in xFIP (3.31), strikeout rate (28.2%) and hard-hit rate (21.7%).
Facing a Tampa Bay Rays' offense that struggled to hit left-handed pitching (21st in wOBA with a 25.0% strikeout rate), Sabathia makes for a nice play.
