Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Monday is an absolutely stacked pitching slate, as Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner face off in Chavez Ravine, Noah Syndergaard is a massive -265 moneyline favorite, and Rick Porcello goes for his 21st win on the year. As a result, Jason Hammel should be severely underowned.
Why You Should Use Him:
While Hammel has struggled a bit to the tune of a 4.78 xFIP in September, he's been absolutely lights out in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, sporting a sparkling 1.77 ERA in 76 1/3 innings pitched in 2016. By comparison, he's logged an ERA of 5.33 over 81 innings pitched in road starts in 2016.
And it's not just ERA, either; he's allowed only 16 extra base hits at home, versus 40 on the road. That's driven a home wOBA that's 125 points lower than his road mark.
Factor in Hammel's 23% strikeout rate at home (4% higher than his 19% road strikeout rate), and he makes for a nice upside play on Monday.
