NFBC ADP: 249.67 | Projected Steals: 21
Margot is young, exciting, and on the brink of starting a potentially fruitful career. Jacoby Ellsbury is none of that, but it doesn't completely erase his fantasy stock.
Ellsbury is a pretty classic aggregator with most of his value stemming from hitting every day at the top of the order. He has at least 620 plate appearances in three of the past four years, helping him reach at least 20 steals and 70 runs scored each season he hit that threshold. At this price, there's value in that. It's just hard to hope for anything more.
Steals are a big part of Ellsbury's value, but as his age creeps up, the speed seems to be going down. His speed score has declined of late, going to 5.7 in both 2015 and 2016 from 8.2 in 2013. Because his age helps explain this drop off, it's a legit cause for concern.
numberFire's projections have Ellsbury down for a .264 batting average, 8 home runs, 72 runs, and 50 RBIs. If we can guarantee his projected 580 plate appearances, you'll take that production at this ADP without hesitation. But things appear to be slipping with Ellsbury, meaning we shouldn't likely be reaching hard for this speed, despite the floor.
