It's probably weird to view a player generally regarded as a top-three dynasty asset as a stock you want to buy. But with the way 2016 went for Bryce Harper, this may be your last opportunity to get him at a reasonable cost for the forseeable future.
The bare bones of Harper's 2016 make it look like a major concern. He finished 627 plate appearances with just 24 home runs and a .243 batting average. Considering his cost, that's not great, Bob.
That's just the downsides, though. Alternatively, Harper swiped a career-high 21 bases while walking almost as many times as he struck out. This helped him post a .373 on-base percentage in his age-23 season. Does that look like a down season to you?
Your leaguemates are smart enough to know Harper is an asset to buy, but any doubts may temporarily put a cap on his cost. Harper has six home runs, eight walks, and eight strikeouts in his 50 spring plate appearances, showing that last year's shoulder injury is a thing of the past. Don't insult the Harper owner with a low-ball offer, but if you have the pieces to make a run at him, now's the time to be aggressive while the getting is good.
