Joey Votto is another guy whose slow start to the year shouldn't scare you. He's coming off of back-to-back seasons with at least a .410 wOBA and .225 ISO, and it's going to take more than 33 plate appearances to raise any sort of red flags about a guy who has posted numbers like that so recently.
It's especially hard to ignore Votto when he's taking on a right-handed pitcher, which is the case tonight as he'll see Ivan Nova. Votto crushed righties for a 41.9% hard-hit rate in both 2015 and 2016.
Nova is coming off of one of the better seasons of his career, having posted a 3.76 SIERA in 2016 (compared to his 4.02 career average), but he still struggled mightily with left-handed sticks, allowing a 37.5% hard-hit rate and giving up a .362 wOBA with a 4.50 xFIP to lefties.
