Marcus Stroman might be the safest pitching option on today's 10-game slate, and he gives you that safety without sacrificing much in the way of upside -- making him a really appealing play.
The Toronto Blue Jays are the biggest favorites on the slate by a significant margin (-211 moneyline), and the Milwaukee Brewers' 3.73 implied total is the second-lowest mark on the slate. Add in Stroman's 60%-plus ground-ball rate over the last two seasons, and it's easy to feel good about Stroman.
Stroman's not an especially high-strikeout guy, but he's shown some signs. His 19.4% strikeout rate last season was an improvement over his 2015 clip, and he has posted an even better 22.6% strikeout rate over the second half of 2016.
If there's ever a matchup to boost a pitcher's strikeout upside, it's this one as the Brewers' 32.0% strikeout rate to start the young season is the highest in the majors by a full 6.0%, and Milwaukee led the league in strikeout rate a season ago.
This is just a great spot all around for Stroman.
