Matt Carpenter didn't have a great start, but he has been making some great contact and his production has recently picked up to reflect that.

Among hitters with at least 25 batted balls, Carpenter ranks 38th in average exit velocity and 41st in average batted-ball distance, while also sporting a decent 32.7% hard-hit rate. That impressive contact doesn't come as much of a surprise -- he finished 2016 with a single-digit soft-hit rate to go with a 41.9% hard-hit rate.

He brings that into a great matchup tonight against righty Zach Davies and the Milwaukee Brewers. Davies has a 4.57 SIERA after posting a 4.06 mark in 2016 and a 4.34 mark as a rookie in 2015. He's allowing a 37.2% hard-hit rate, and Carpenter should be able to do some damage in this one.
