Why He Will Go Overlooked:
There are some massive arms at the top of the slate, including Jacob deGrom, Chris Archer, and Max Scherzer. In a smaller slate, these three studs are likely to see some heavy ownership.
Back in the rotation for an injured Alex Wood, Hyun-jin Ryu faces the St. Louis Cardinals on the road. With a middling 4.12 SIERA over 40 innings pitched and several strong arms at the top, Ryu isn't going to see much ownership.
Why You Should Use Him:
While Ryu has already given up eight long balls this season, there's a lot of reason to be bullish about tonight's start.
First, he will face a Cardinals team that struggles against left-handed pitching. So far in 2017 against lefties, the Cardinals rank 24th in wOBA (.294) and have struck out 22.6% of the time.
Ryu has shown he can still be effective, racking up strikeouts as he's posted a strikeout rate of 21.5% this season.
If he can hold down the walks (currently a 9.0% walk rate this year) against a team that struggles with left-handed pitching, Ryu could make for a sneaky cheap pitching play.
