Unlike most closers today, Billy Wagner sustained his late-game dominance for more than just a few seasons. From 1997 to 2008, the left-handed hurler served as a premier closer for the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. He saved at least 21 games in each season, maxing out at 44 in 2003, when he won the league's Rolaids Relief Man Award (given to the league's most valuable reliever). In addition to winning the award, Wagner was a participant in seven All-Star games and today ranks sixth with 422 career saves.
