Starts: June 20th vs. San Diego Padres, June 25th at Miami Marlins
ESPN ownership: 5 percent
Mike Montgomery has a 2.21 ERA in relief for the Chicago Cubs, and he's kept pace with the starter's load admirably, limiting the Rockies and the Mets to two runs a piece across a pair of starts filling in for a nicked-up Kyle Hendricks.
It will be interesting to see if Montgomery can maintain his strong ground-ball tendencies in the longer starting assignments; his 58% grounder rate is a top-12 number among pitchers with a minimum of 40 innings, but that rate looks like a more pedestrian 50% across his two starts, admittedly a rather small sample.
This upcoming two-step will be a nice chance to pad those ground-ball numbers, as Montgomery faces off against two teams with leading the way in grounder rate.
