FanDuel Price: $2,200
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
FanDuel has done it again -- with the best pitcher on the planet taking the bump in Clayton Kershaw, every Los Angeles Angels regular is priced at $2,300 or less. And for good reason -- Kershaw is a wizard on the mound.
Those reduced salaries can be tempting to some, but more often than not, they generally lead to players being ignored. And when it comes to facing Kershaw, lefties are almost always ignored.
Over 392 career innings pitched, Kershaw has limited left-handed hitters to a .245 wOBA while striking out 36.5% of them. That should lead to low ownership for Kole Calhoun.
Why You Should Use Him:
Calhoun certainly has a very tall order ahead of him, but are we maybe starting to see the first crack in Kershaw's armor?
The Dodgers ace has faced 88 lefties this year, and they've posted a .351 wOBA while striking out 22.7% of the time with a 29.2% hard-hit rate and a 38.7% fly-ball rate. This has all contributed to lefties hitting 2.14 homers per nine innings off him so far in 2017.
Facing southpaws hasn't been terrible for Calhoun, either -- he's posted a .203 ISO in this situation, and that mark improves to .225 when he's at home. Furthermore, June has been a solid month for the outfielder, evidenced by his .915 OPS. He's certainly worth your attention, despite his matchup against someone as good as Kershaw.
