The Oakland Athletics are often a nice source of low-priced punts, but Marcus Semien has crept out of that sweet sub-$3,000 range. Even in a nice matchup against rookie Troy Scribner, who has all of four innings of major league experience, Semien is too expensive to consider rostering.

Although he's turned it up a notch lately -- he has a 36.2% hard-hit rate over the last 14 days -- this is still a guy with a career .310 wOBA and 28.4% hard-hit rate. He hit 27 home runs last year, but it's fair to question whether that was simply the result of an uncharacteristic career-high 14.7% home run-to-fly-ball rate (HR/FB) than anything else.

Furthermore, Semien is playing in run-killing Angel Stadium, resulting in a ho-hum 4.31 implied team total for the A's.
