Carlos Asuaje has regularly occupied the two-hole for the San Diego Padres since his call-up and that should be the case again tonight. Right-hander Tim Adleman will step into the rotation for the Cincinnati Reds, with Robert Stephenson on the mend, and they don't come much more average than Adleman.
In 20 appearances, Adleman is the owner of a 5.42 ERA and 5.07 xFIP, along with a 9.5% walk rate and 45.5% fly-ball rate, all of which point towards a high ceiling for what is ordinarily an unexciting San Diego offense. Adleman has been even worse against lefties, with a 6.02 xFIP against southpaws.
Asuaje, a lefty, has seen his numbers improve markedly against right-handed pitching this season. His wOBA has climbed from .195 against lefties to .368 against righties, while his hard-hit rate has moved from 26.3% to 31.7%.
