Start: August 15th vs. San Francisco Giants
ESPN ownership: 49 percent
A career-best 6.7% walk rate has made Dan Straily a sneakily viable bench arm for mixed leaguers this season, though the discrepancy between his 3.74 ERA and 4.65 expected fielding independent pitching (xFIP) might have cautious owners waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop on the normally homer-prone Miami Marlins righty.
Whatever regression might be waiting for Straily is unlikely to kick in this week, as the Marlins square off against the bottom-feeding Giants. Streamers have been circling San Francisco matchups on their calendar all year, and with good reason: the Giants have been the least threatening offense in the bigs by just about every offensive metric.
Now, while Straily's 21.6% strikeout rate would be a career best, don't expect the righty to pad those numbers against a Giants team that, despite its overall production woes, stands among the stingiest punchout targets in the league. But let's not get greedy: Straily's in a great spot to contribute quality innings for fantasy owners across all formats.
