Adrian Gonzalez has shown some signs of life since coming off the disabled list, hitting a home run last night, and putting up a 48.0% hard-hit rate over 34 plate appearances.
Still, it's hard to get too excited, considering it's just his second home run of the year. In 2017, he's posted a .274 wOBA and .097 isolated power (ISO) over 216 plate appearances. His matchup against Chase Anderson is also mediocre at best, given his 4.25 SIERA and 23.2% strikeout rate, and he hasn't shown stark platoon splits.
Considering we have big boppers like Paul Goldschmidt and Anthony Rizzo, among others, going in strong spots, it might be a better day to pay up at first base.
