With Clayton Kershaw on a pitch limit, it's hard to trust him tonight, especially when he's the most expensive pitcher. That means we have to be a little flexible with what we count as a "stud" pitcher, as there's only one other hurler priced above $9,000.

Jimmy Nelson certainly has some stud-like numbers this year, with a 3.45 SIERA with 26.6% strikeout rate and 11.2% swinging-strike rate. His strikeout rate has actually been up a bit recently, too, as he's fanned 27.6% of hitters since the All-Star break.

His matchup against the Washington Nationals isn't an ideal one, but looking at their active roster, they have a 100 wRC+ and 20.2% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching -- not strong enough marks to scare us off Nelson on a slate that is really thin at the top end of the pricing spectrum for pitchers.
