When healthy, James Paxton has been fantastic in 2017, holding a 3.51 SIERA, 28.1% strikeout rate, and 7.1% walk rate over 21 starts. But it's hard to have much confidence in using him tonight.
Paxton returned from the disabled list last week, and the results weren't pretty. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs with nary a strikeout to be seen. While we might just call it a bad day under normal circumstances, the other issue is he was limited to 50 pitches -- the plan all along regardless of his performance. It's hard to imagine the Seattle Mariners will allow him to jump to 100 pitches in his next start, making him a poor bet to have a big DFS night even if he shakes off the rust.
Similarly, Jake Arrieta is expected to only throw 75-80 pitches, so he should be off your radar as well.
