3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/21/17
James Paxton has been great this season, but struggled in his return from the disabled list last week. Who else should we avoid on FanDuel tonight?

Joe Mauer, 1B, Minnesota Twins

FanDuel Price: $3,700

With Jordan Zimmermann on the mound against the Minnesota Twins, there is every reason in the world to stack them tonight. Zimmermann has been downright awful this year, and is coming off a neck injury that has kept him out since September 2nd. Among many bad marks, he has put up a 5.26 SIERA and 38.9% hard-hit rate over 27 starts. He went through a stretch in August when he allowed 7 earned runs in three straight outings. You're practically required to have exposure to the Twins tonight (5.17 implied total).

And yet, unless you're making a multitude of Twins lineups, it's still hard to recommend using Joe Mauer at this exorbitant price. He may still be a solid major league hitter, but there simply isn't any power upside with his .115 isolated power and 7 home runs this year. Particularly at first base, it's far more likely that salary pays off on a true power-hitting first baseman, or if it's allocated to other positions. For example, Justin Smoak (38 home runs) has a great matchup against Jason Vargas, and costs only $3,200.
