Projected Wins By Our Models: 72
2018 Over/Under: 68
As was the case with the Marlins, this is not a matter of our model projecting the White Sox to be good or even mediocre; with regards to their Vegas total, it is merely a question of how bad will they be.
The White Sox are in a rebuilding phase, but there is still a fair degree of talent at the top of the roster, including Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada and Avisail Garcia, who is coming off a 4.2 fWAR season (albeit with the aid of a .392 BABIP).
Things do decline from there pretty drastically, and it is worth noting that the White Sox are second to last (behind only the Marlins) in both projected pitching WAR and position player WAR, per FanGraphs.
Still, not unlike their fellow projected bottom feeders in Miami, Chicago will need to scrape together just 20 WAR to hit its total (if we don’t consider sequencing, but remember sequencing could also work in Chicago favor).
