Starts: March 29th vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, April 3rd vs. Seattle Mariners
ESPN percentage owned: 2.6%
With the San Francisco Giants' rotation besieged with injury to open the season, two young, relatively anonymous starters are stepping up. Both Chris Stratton and Ty Blach are almost universally available to streamers in ESPN leagues, and while Stratton might boast the better pedigree, his being right-handed could get him in trouble against the Dodgers. That same risk exists with Blach, who will face the Dodgers on opening day, but there's still reason to be interested.
After that start against the Dodgers, Blach draws a home start against a Seattle Mariners squad that scraped by on below-average power production last season and projects for more mediocrity this year. That should at least partially negate the downsides should Blach get clobbered on Thursday.
Blach's comically low 10.6% strikeout rate last season isn't exactly the stuff that fantasy dreams were made of, but he's a capable eater of innings, averaging more than 6 frames per start across 24 assignments last season. Deep leaguers whose fantasy staffs are looking as lean as the Giants' current rotation could certainly do worse.
