Pitching for his fourth team in the last three seasons, Bartolo Colon will make his Texas Rangers debut tonight against the Oakland Athletics, who boast the day's third-highest implied total (4.83 runs).
If 2017 (and even 2016) was any indication, age has really started to catch up with Colon. The quadragenarian posted a 4.37 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in 2016, which was his worst mark since 2009, and he followed that up with a 5.08 SIERA in 2017 -- a career-worst clip. Colon ranked in the bottom 20% of hurlers in average pitch velocity (minimum 1000 pitches), and the 35.8% hard-hit rate he allowed was a career-high mark.
Matt Joyce's .343 wOBA in 2017 wasn't a jaw-dropping number by any stretch, but he showed that he still has plenty of pop in his bat with a .230 isolated slugging (ISO). He was also especially strong against right-handed pitching, posting a .360 wOBA and .256 ISO on a 31.3% hard-hit rate and 45.5% fly-ball rate in the split.
