Xander Bogaerts is being activated off the disabled list, and that means we can expect him to return to the Boston Red Sox' lineup on Friday. With the missed time, Bogaerts' salary has fallen all the way to the minimum, a mark that is way too low for a guy as productive as he is.
Bogaerts got off to a blazing hot start to the season, notching a .471 wOBA over his first nine games. That's not a sustainable mark, but with at least a .335 in two of the least three seasons, it has been a long time since he produced like a minimum-salary guy.
Bogaerts is especially productive when he's up against a southpaw, as he is tonight in Tampa's Blake Snell. Since the start of the 2016 season, the shortstop has turned in a .356 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Snell has a 4.56 xFIP against right-handed bats in that same timeframe, and he isn't likely to slow Bogaerts down tonight.
