We're seeing a revitalized Tyson Ross in 2018 as he owns a 3.52 SIERA and 27.0% strikeout rate through six starts. Those aren't exactly numbers we want to attack, and with the Washington Nationals checking in with a 3.90 implied team total, few will be looking their way tonight.
But Ross isn't known for holding runners on base, which adds some intriguing upside for Trea Turner. Over his career, Ross has allowed base runners a 76% success rate in stealing bags for a grand total of 105 stolen bases. Good luck stopping Turner, who is top 10 in sprint speed and is 12 for 13 on attempted thefts this season. Turner has also upped his walk rate (14.0%) -- adding to his chances of reaching base -- and is no slouch at the plate against righties with a career .370 wOBA.
Most who are paying up at shortstop will likely opt for Carlos Correa, so Turner gives you an underrated, high-upside alternative at almost the exact same salary.
