Miami Marlins southpaw Jarlin Garcia has a stellar 1.09 ERA through six starts this season, but his 4.73 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) inspires a lot less confidence -- particularly when you consider his 36.4% hard-hit rate and 14.8% soft-hit rate. Over 86 1/3 career innings in the Majors, his SIERA sits at 4.50, meaning he shouldn't scare you off from the Chicago Cubs' offense tonight.
Willson Contreras' numbers also make it pretty easy to look past Garcia's low ERA.
Contreras has a 36.4% hard-hit rate in his small 34-plate-appearance sample against southpaws in 2018, and going back to the start of the 2017 season, he has an excellent .377 wOBA and .223 isolated slugging (ISO) against lefties.
