Another guy struggling to start 2018, Adam Duvall only has a .175 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) this season, despite a strong 40.0% hard-hit rate. His previous career-worst BABIP in a season with at least 100 plate appearances was .275, and he posted a .290 last year. Even if nothing changes about the way he is hitting the ball, this huge discrepancy means that we can expect a big bump in production moving forward.
Tonight's matchup puts him in an especially good spot to produce as well, taking on New York Mets southpaw Jason Vargas.
Duvall has a .369 wOBA and .293 ISO against lefties since the start of the 2017 season, and in that time Vargas has a weak 4.78 xFIP against right-handed bats. It just make sense.
