3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 5/10/18
Caleb Smith has been a pleasant surprise this season, and on a slate without much in the way of surefire pitching studs, he makes for an appealing tourney play.

Nelson Cruz, OF, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $3,800

Using Nelson Cruz against a lefty is fairly standard procedure, but in this case, that lefty is J.A. Happ, who's been lights out this year. One look at that 2.95 SIERA and 31.0% strikeout rate will leave most glossing right over the Seattle Mariners, and a fair share of tournament lineups could also have Happ as their pitcher.

There's no question it's not an ideal spot for Cruz, but it's not like Happ has been impervious to the long ball. All seven of the home runs he's given up have come via right-handed sticks, leading to a .341 wOBA allowed in the split. That's something Cruz, who has a massive career 145 wRC+ against left-handed pitching, can work with.

While everyone else is clamoring for the high-priced bats in Coors, don't be afraid to take a contrarian shot with Cruz in large-field tournaments.
