Starting off with a look at the betting odds, things are immediately very promising for Carlos Carrasco. The Cleveland Indians are the day's biggest favorites (-236 moneyline), and the Detroit Tigers' 3.41 implied total is the day's lowest.
The Tigers rank in the bottom-10 in wRC+ (93) against right-handed pitching this season, and bringing those struggles into a matchup with Carrasco, it's no surprise that oddsmakers are so low on Detroit.
Carrasco has turned in a solid start to 2018, with a 3.44 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) over eight games. Coming off a 32-game 2017 campaign that saw him post a 3.35 SIERA, there's no reason to believe we'll see that number fall. His strikeout numbers have also remained solid, with a 25.9% strikeout rate as well as a huge 14.1% swinging-strike rate, the latter of which is on pace to be a career-best clip.
Combining the upside that his high-strikeout numbers give him with the great floor suggested by the betting lines, Carrasco is the day's top arm in all formats.
