A short main slate on Wednesday doesn't leave us with a ton of well-positioned offenses, but the Cubs' 4.72 implied total is the third-highest on the slate as they take on Brandon McCarthy and the Atlanta Braves.
McCarthy has struggled to open 2018, and that is nothing new. He is on pace for his third consecutive season with a skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) of at least 4.40.
Ben Zobrist is no killer from the dish, but he has opened the season with a competent .334 wOBA. Even though the switch-hitting Zobrist has done his best work against southpaws over his career, the last three seasons have seen him manage a .342 wOBA against righties.
Surrounded by what should be a productive offense in a good matchup, that's enough to give Zobrist some solid value here.
