Jason Heyward's precipitous decline at the dish has become something of an inside joke among fantasy players over the past few seasons. Indeed, Heyward has become such a punchline that few would even bother a second glance at his typically futile .226/.306/.349 triple slash through 123 plate appearances.
Yet the underlying statistics do show Heyward displaying his best hard-contact rate since his salad days with the Atlanta Braves, with an expected slugging percentage 162 percentage points higher than his actual mark.
This week Heyward returns to the Chicago Cubs from a short concussion-related stint on the disabled list to face untested righties Adam Plutko and Chris Stratton, spots in which he could provide some sneaky value near minimum salary.
