FanDuel Price: $6,000
Jacob deGrom is in a tier of his own tonight in a soft matchup against the Miami Marlins, and he'll almost certainly dominate ownership in both cash games and tournaments. If you want to play things safe at pitcher, the logical move is to lock deGrom in, throw out the key, and move on to your bats.
But in tournaments there's always room to try to differentiate yourself from the crowd. Even the best and most obvious plays can go awry in daily fantasy baseball, so if deGrom happens to falter, you'll have a huge leg up on the field if you're off him.
Following groin and ankle injuries prior to the season, Luiz Gohara is making his first start of 2018, and last season he posted solid 3.89 SIERA, 25.2% strikeout rate, and 6.5% walk rate. But the real appeal here is his minuscule salary, which doesn't rank much higher than what Aaron Judge ($5,300) and Giancarlo Stanton ($5,200) cost. With those kinds of savings, you can go wild with your bats, stocking up on the priciest of sluggers from teams like the New York Yankees or Chicago Cubs.
It's not without a sizable amount of risk, however, as Gohara was mediocre during his minor league rehab stint, and he's only logged seven innings out of the bullpen for the big league club this year. We don't really know if he'll replicate last season's numbers right away, and the Philadelphia Phillies are certainly capable of doing some damage. Still, if you're willing to take the gamble and Gohara performs well, you could find yourself climbing the leaderboards with your array of high-caliber sticks.
