Before we all go ahead and give the American League Rookie of the Year award to Shohei Ohtani, there's another first-year player who would like to say a few words about his candidacy. New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres is having a pretty awesome rookie season of his own.

Torres is hitting .320/.384/.620 overall with 9 home runs, 24 RBI, a wOBA of .422 and a wRC+ of 169. He's been red-hot lately, especially with his power, hitting 7 of his 9 dingers in May with a wOBA of .455 and a wRC+ of 192.
Among second basemen with at least 100 plate appearances, that wOBA and wRC+ are both the best in baseball and are the best among all rookies at any position. If you see an owner with Torres on their bench, make a strong offer on this young superstar.
