Max Scherzer has been absolutely deadly this season, with a 2.33 skill-interactive ERA and 38.2% strikeout rate that both rank second among qualifying pitchers. Both numbers on pace to be career-bests, but they aren't too far out of line with what the Mad Max norm.
Scherzer's coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him notch a 2.98 SIERA, finishing with a mark below 3.00 for the fourth time in five seasons. He also posted a 34.4% strikeout rate in 2017, and the improvement this year has come with a career-high and league-leading swinging-strike rate (16.6%).
Pitching as well as he is, it's no surprise that his 52.0 FanDuel points per game are the best in the Majors. His matchup today is a good one as well as he takes on a Baltimore Orioles squad that ranks bottom-five in wRC+ against right-handed pitching, while also striking out at a top-six rate.
On today's main slate, Scherzer is the top pitcher in all formats.
