There's no doubt that New York Yankees starter Sonny Gray is in a bit of a rut to start 2018. Over 49 2/3 innings pitched, Gray has recorded a 4.93 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), 11.9% walk rate, and 35.4% hard-hit rate.
That means stack the Orioles, right? Maybe, but it's best to avoid their left-handed batters. Where Gray has shined is with the platoon advantage this season, holding lefties to a .306 wOBA, 0.38 home runs per nine innings pitched, and a 28.2% fly-ball rate.
Pedro Alvarez has socked his way to eight long balls after only 34 plate appearances in the big leagues last year, but in spite of that pop, he boasts just a .326 wOBA. It's probably better to look elsewhere at the hot corner.
