Finding Betting Value in the Odds for the 2018 National League Cy Young Award
Max Scherzer is the clear favorite as of now, but which other players could push for the NL Cy Young?

Carlos Martinez, St. Louis Cardinals

Odds: 66/1

The Cardinals have activated young right-hander Carlos Martinez from the disabled list, and he has some work to do if he wants to move up this list. He's made fewer starts than the rest of the starting pitchers on this list, with just nine thus far, but he has a 1.83 ERA to show for it, the third-lowest ERA among pitchers with at least 50 innings.

But there are warning signs that Martinez's ERA may soon start to elevate. He entered Wednesday with a FIP of 3.43 thanks mainly to a walk rate of 11.8%. That is too high for him to be a serious Cy Young contender, and his batting average allowed of .188 will undoubtedly tick upwards some if he can't find better command.

Martinez is a longshot and probably not a great bet even at the longest odds in the field.
