Miami Marlins southpaw Wei-Yin Chen entered this season coming off a career-worst 2017 campaign in which he struggled to the tune of a 4.61 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA).
Things have been significantly worse for the 32-year-old in 2018 as he's posted an ugly 5.39 SIERA through eight starts, while his walk rate (11.3%) and strikeout rate (16.3%) are career-worst marks. Chen's batted-ball profiles is worrying, too, as his 13.0% soft-hit rate is a career low and his 47.7% fly-ball rate is the highest he has ever allowed.
Andrew McCutchen hasn't been posting gaudy numbers in his first season with the San Francisco Giants, but his .341 wOBA is still a solid mark. He has also been making great contact against lefties, with a 47.5% hard-hit and 37.3% fly-ball rate. He's coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him turn a 42.6% hard-hit rate against southpaws into a huge .462 wOBA, and he shouldn't have much trouble getting things going against Chen.
