After struggling to open the 2018 season, Paul Goldschmidt has come on in a huge way recently, boasting a .480 wOBA and .389 ISO over the past four weeks.
Up until that point, his wOBA sat at only .310, which was on pace to be a career-low clip by a huge margin. He has posted a wOBA of at least .400 in three of the last four years, and he looks to be quickly climbing back into that range again.
He has produced especially absurd numbers in his small sample against southpaws, turning a 54.0% hard-hit rate into a .498 wOBA and .418 ISO. That gives him a .439 wOBA in 243 plate appearances against lefties since the start of the 2017 season.
New York Mets lefty Jason Vargas is a particularly good matchup, allowing a 37.2% hard-hit rate to right-handed bats, while his xFIP against righties sits at 4.67 over the last two seasons. Look for Goldschmidt to keep rolling here.
