The Colorado Rockies may not get the benefit of playing at Coors Field tonight, but travelling to take on the Texas Rangers still leaves them playing in a hitters' park, and today's most hitter-friendly one at that, in Globe Life Park.
The Rockies also draw a plus pitching matchup against Rangers southpaw Yohander Mendez, and their 5.50 implied total is tied as the day's highest. Mendez has only pitched 16 Major League innings in his career, but he has an egregious 5.64 SIERA, with a 6.9% walk rate that comes worryingly close to his 9.7% strikeout rate in that sample. He hasn't had much success in the Minors either, struggling to the tune of a 5.21 xFIP over 10 Triple-A starts in 2018.
Arenado's numbers get inflated by spending a lot of his time at Coors, but a matchup with a southpaw is still an outstanding spot for him on the road. Over the last three seasons, he has made 222 plate appearances against lefties on the road, turning a 37.0% hard-hit rate and 50.0% fly-ball rate into a .422 wOBA and .272 isolated slugging (ISO). Bringing that into a great matchup like this leaves him offering tournament-winning upside and a cash-worthy floor.
