Sometimes, we forget about players. They start hot, get hurt, they're gone for a while and, unless we're a fan of the team they play for, they kind of slip our minds. San Francisco Giants starter Johnny Cueto falls into that category to me as he continues to work back from an elbow strain that sidelined him after just five starts this year.
Cueto isn't able to return from the DL until June 30, but his first five starts of the season were so good that now is a good time to either pluck him off the waiver wire or try and snag him from a sleepy owner. Cueto has a 0.84 ERA this season with a 2.72 FIP in 32.0 innings. His numbers won't stay that low, but if his stuff is anything like what it was before he got hurt, he'll continue to be effective in a pitcher's park, although this year, AT&T Park has actually played up as a hitter's park.
Cueto won't be back for a couple weeks yet, which makes now a good time to buy.
