Jed Lowrie is putting together another impressive campaign, and it may be the best one of his career. After a sparkling 2017 season that saw Lowrie post a .347 weighted on-base average (wOBA), including 14 home runs and 86 runs scored, Lowrie has taken things to another level with a .363 wOBA, 14 long-balls and, a 39.1% hard-hit rate, his best since 2010.
Unfortunately, Lowrie will face southpaw Clayton Richard, who has been twirling the heck out of the ball since May 8th. Over that timeframe and 69 1/3 innings, Richard has recorded a paltry 20.1% fly-ball rate, .265 opponent wOBA and, 3.38 expected fielder-independent pitching (xFIP).
Lowrie makes for an excellent play most nights, but tonight is one of the few times we want to stay away.
