FanDuel Price: $11,400
Lance McCullers is a terrific pitcher. Although the results didn't show up until last year, he's been sneakily great throughout his tenure as a member of the Houston Astros, as indicated by his career 3.52 SIERA.
Because McCullers' most dominant pitch is his curveball, he actually experiences reverse platoon splits. In his career, he has held left-handed hitters to a .273 wOBA, while right-handed hitters have managed a .321 wOBA against him. Against a Oakland Athletics that features just one switch-hitter (Jed Lowrie) and two left-handed hitters (Matt Olson and Dustin Fowler), this makes McCullers a tad overpriced above $11,000.
Another concern is that the Oakland offense is good, or at least better than you may think. They rank first in hard-hit rate (41.1%) and second in fly-ball rate against right-handed pitching (39.1%).
McCullers would be an okay contrarian play, but given the matchup, you're probably better off paying extra for Chris Sale or Jacob deGrom in cash.
