A subdued overall slash line of .247/.314/.431 is masking some positive recent trends for Ketel Marte. The Arizona Diamondbacks' infielder is showing excellent plate discipline over the last month, working a 13.4% walk rate that's identical to his slim strikeout rate. He's stroking 39% hard contact and 22% line drives when he does take the bat off his shoulder.
The switch-hitting D-Back has been a good play against lefties over the past calendar year, tallying a .226 ISO on 41.4% hard contact over his last 198 plate appearances against southpaws. With Jon Lester, Mike Montgomery, and Eric Lauer on the bump in Week 17, Marte could prove to be a fruitful low-cost option.
