The Boston Red Sox are by far the biggest favorites on Friday's slate, with a -370 moneyline in their favor. That leaves the Minnesota Twins with the slate's second-lowest implied total, at a paltry 3.00 runs.
A lot of the Sox' huge edge comes from the fact that Chris Sale is taking the mound tonight. Sale's 2.37 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) is not only the best among the starters in action today, but also ranks first among all qualifying pitchers on the season. In fact, the gap between Sale and the second-best mark (2.77) is bigger than the gap between the second- and seventh-best mark for the year. And his 37.5% strikeout rate is also over 2% higher than any other qualifying pitcher's, and his 16.0% swinging-strike rate ranks second.
The Twins have really struggled with southpaws this season, ranking 24th in wRC+ and striking out at a top-5 rate, and Sale should have little trouble dominating in this matchup.
