Eugenio Suarez has absolutely mashed left-handed pitching this year to the tune of a .337 ISO and a 55.1% hard-hit rate. He's a guy who tends to go overlooked due to the presence of Joey Votto and everybody's favorite 2018 breakout Scooter Gennett, but he is having himself quite a year. His 24 home runs lead the Reds, and, with Cincinnati projected to score 4.36 runs tonight, he should be a big part of their offensive production once again.
On the other side of this matchup is southpaw Matt Boyd, a guy who has been serviceable at best (4.36 SIERA), but really struggles with right-handed bats. Boyd's walk rate jumps from 2.8% against lefties to 10.0% against righties, his strikeouts drop from 25.0% to 20.8%, and his xFIP balloon from 3.67 to 4.94.
As usual, Suarez has competition at a loaded third base position, with studs like Jose Ramirez, Manny Machado and Alex Bregman all in great spots. As a result, expect Suarez to garner relatively low ownership tonight in a matchup in which he has tremendous upside.
