St. Louis Cardinals brass claims that Luke Weaver's rotation spot is not in jeopardy despite his recent struggles. You know what that means: his rotation spot is probably in actual jeopardy.
Many standard leaguers have already beaten the Cards to the punch. The third-year righty was universally drafted this spring after a strong partial season in 2017 (3.88 ERA and 28.7% strikeouts in 60.1 frames), but his ESPN ownership has taken a nosedive along with his strikeout rate, while his outsized 8.5% walk rate in 115.2 innings has made him a major WHIP liability.
The silver lining is that that Weaver is very much on the streaming radar for daredevil fantasy owners who weigh his strong matchups over the evident risk. The 27-year-old Cardinal draws two of the league's softest offenses in Week 19, with Miami a particularly juicy matchup, as they've sported MLB's worst group isolated slugging (ISO) against righties over the last month.
