Max Scherzer is having a monster year, even by his lofty standards. His 2.71 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), 34.7% strikeout rate and 16.5% swinging-strike rate are all on pace to be career-bests, and he ranks top-three among qualifying starters in all three of those areas.

Just looking at today's starters, nobody comes close to matching him in any of those those stats, with the next-best SIERA sitting at 3.21, next-best strikeout rate at 30.3% and swinging-strike rate at 14.1%.

He combines those deadly numbers with a plus matchup against the Atlanta Braves tonight, as well. Just looking at teams' active rosters, the Braves rank a lowly 23rd in wRC+ against right-handed pitching. They're not an especially strikeout-happy side, but Scherzer's swing-and-miss stuff goes a long way to make up for that.
